We stayed at the Moxy Hotel by Marriott at the Koln-Bonn Airport.  Here is our Kolsh beer tour – Muhlen, Gilden (my favorite), Peters, Dom, Zion, Gaffel and Frur although we did not have the last two.  This beer tour is a great way to walk through the Altstadt (old city).  Sit and enjoy the Rhine River with a Kolsh!  You must visit the Dom Cathedral and I would suggest the German/Roman Museum as well.  Go to BJCP.org to learn more about beer styles, and you can use this site to become a beer judge like me as well.
