The wildlife in South Dakota fantastic. I took all of these pictures, and if you go there you can too. Although, I’m not sure if you will have the same luck with the Borrowing Owl, but you might do even better if you see a very rare Black-footed Ferret in the Badlands. Parks we visited – Badlands (South Dakota), Devil’s Tower (Wyoming), Theodore Roosevelt (North Dakota), Custer State Park (South Dakota), Mt. Rushmore (South Dakota). We also went to Crazy Horse Memorial in the Black Hills as well. All the parks cost money for entry, but generally the entry fee is good for several days. Just ask the park ranger. Drive the entire Highway 16A (Iron Mountain Road), and Highway 87 (Needles Highway). Look for places to stay at Sylvan Lake or Blue Bell Lodge. These are great locations in the Black Hills. Three western style tourist towns in the Black Hills are Custer, Hill City, and Keystone. Two other stops that are fun in South Dakota are Wall Drug and the Corn Palace in Mitchell, SD.
