Episode 148 – Peru Travel – Machu Picchu and More

Here are some highlights and logistics from Ed’s trip to Peru.  Tour Companies: Viator and Exploor.  He went in the middle of June, and with a United States passport he had no Visa requirements.  He used Latam Airlines for internal flights in Peru.  He spent several days in Cusco to climatize to the altitude of 11,000 feet.  Getting to Machu Picchu he was driven 1.5 hrs by car to Ollantaytamo (this town also has ruins to look at as well) to catch the train to Machu Picchu.  I did a little research after our discussion and it looks to me like you can take the train the whole way from Cusco to Aquas Calientes.  He got off the train at KM104 to walk the last 7.5 miles of the Inca Trail so he could come into Machu Pichu through the Sun Gate.  Rainbow Mountain is at 17,000 feet, so do not do this on your first day!  He visited the floating islands of Uros on Lake Titicaca, which is at 12,000 feet. They finished their trip in Arequipa, and took a tour to Colca Canjon to see the Condors.  It snowed on them so understand the weather.

Hotels
Cusco – Rumi Punku Hotel (nice, but just really need a place to sleep in between excursions)
Aguas Calientes – Tierra Viva
Puno – Casa Andina Premium (not Standard)(outside of town, but on the lake and restaurant is very good)
Arequipa – Los Tambos Boutique (close to all the action, but a little noisy)
Our favorite restaurant:
Zig Zag – Arequipa

If you would like to help the show and you have been thinking about getting one of these credit cards use my links: Capital One Venture X, Southwest Airlines Personal and/or Business Cards, Chase Sapphire Reserve, Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Business Ink Cards, and the IHG (Holiday Inn) Cards. If you use my links to sign up for the card I get some points, and again it doesn’t cost you anything to help out the show.  Some of these credit card links do not last long.  If the link doesn’t work please contact me and I can send one to you in real time.  Remember, if you are unable to pay your credit cards off monthly then it is not worth getting these.  Thanks so much!
